Professional Biography of Professor Afam Icha-Ituma

Professor Afam Icha Ituma is the second Vice-Chancellor of Coal City University. He is an outstanding institutional builder and has a strong track record of delivery in institutional growth, efficiency and performance improvement. He brings a compelling blend of clear strategic vision, a collegiate leadership style, a depth and breadth of academic understanding and global perspective to the position.

As Professor Afam pursued his scholarly and teaching roles, leadership duties seemed to beckon at every turn. It is in delivering these tasks that he garnered broad hands-on skills, practical knowledge and fundamental proficiencies in key structural, legislative and regulatory frameworks crucial to the effective management of institutions of higher learning. In the fullness of time, he has accumulated a vast wealth of administrative experience, honed his skills in management of people and programmes for set outputs, cut his teeth in leadership and distinguished himself as a capable leader. His progressive rise in leadership roles where he has served in several  management positions both in Nigeria and abroad .

Prior to his appointment as the  Vice Chancellor of Coal City University , Professor Afam served as the Dean of faculty of Management and Social Sciences , Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike . Professor Afam has also served in several administrative and academic positions in Universities in the UK, Netherlands , Sweden, Portugal and Nigeria . These are:

  • Graduate Teaching Assistant at Brunel University.
  • Senior Lecturer at Bournemouth University (UK).
  • Academic Consultant at Mountbatten Institute (UK).
  • Visiting Professor of Human Resource Management and Internationalization at University of Lincoln (UK).
  • Visiting Research Fellow at Kingston Business School (UK).
  • Visiting Fellow at the University of Leiden (Netherlands).
  • Marie Skłodowska-Curie Research Fellow at the University of London (UK).
  • Marie Skłodowska-Curie Research Fellow at the University of  Lisbon (Portugal) .
  • Erasmus+ Visiting Professor at the University of Kent (UK).
  • Linnaeus-Palme Academic Visitor at the University of Gavle (Sweden).

 In addition, he has exhibited remarkable gift in people management, eye for detail and possesses exemplary skills in financial management, networking, fundraising and resource mobilization, he has served as External Examiner at the University of Manchester, University of Northumbria, University of Wales and Pan-Atlantic University and professorial assessor at Nigeria Defense Academy, Pan-Atlantic University, Covenant University, among others.

Professor Afam has had an enviable track record in academia, research and publication. This is demonstrated in his contribution to several publications that he has authored or co-authored in peer reviewed journals. To date, Professor Kiama has co-authored over 100 journals and conference publications.

He is the founder and President of Research Scholars Forum, an interdisciplinary research assembly that aims to galvanize the dynamic but dispersed community of Nigerian scholars, academic institutions in Africa, Europe, North America and Asia, to tackle national challenges.
